POSITION TITLE
Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE), Part TimeOBJECTIVES
With support of the Minister, Lifespan Religious Education Committee (LREC), and volunteers from the congregation, the CRE develops, implements, and administers a Lifespan Religious Education program that nurtures a Unitarian Universalist (UU) identity among Unity's children and young adults.
ORGANIZATION
Unity Church is a Welcoming, Fair Share, Fair Compensation, congregation in the Ballou-Channing District of Massachusetts.
Though historically small, usually 115-130 members any given year, our membership is extremely active in its committees, covenant groups, social action, and community work, with high participation by members and friends.
We have a $160K budget supplemented by several trusts for maintenance, RE books, and our music program. Our physical home is a 135 year old historic artistically and architecturally significant building currently undergoing a critical restoration, led by members of our congregation.
The RE program has 50 children enrolled
Average Fall attendance: 35
Average Winter/play attendance: 20
Average Spring attendance: 15
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Per the Unity Church of North Easton by-laws, the Minister directly supervises the CRE. The CRE will work closely with the Minister with regards to setting performance goals and evaluating performance.
WORK HOURS
Part-Time, 10 Hours per week x 10 months per year:
At church on Sundays at least from 9:30 to Noon to supervise the morning Religious Education program
Other times, as needed, to maintain curricula and prepare materials for classes
One to two evenings per month for meetings
Be available to parents and teachers as needed
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
I.Create and revise curriculum, prepare lesson plans and set-up Sunday school classes for volunteers.
Review, plan, and prepare curricula and materials; coordinate with LREC. (5 hours per week)
Support and assist youth programming. (1 hour per week)
Assist the minister with planning intergenerational services. (1/2 hour per month)
Work closely with the LRE Committee Program Specialist in coordination Coming of Age, OWL, Children's Chapel, and Social Action activities. (2 hours per month)
II.Staff and Support the Religious Education Program.
Support volunteer teachers at all levels with the assistance of the LREC in accordance with our Safe Congregation Policy.(1 hour per week)
Guide and serve as liaison with the RE Aide to assist with behavior management of youth attending RE programs. (1 hour per month)
Work with LRE Committee Chair in recognizing volunteers who directly support the program. (1/2 hour per month)
III.Communication
Connect/communicate with parents regarding specific RE issues, comments and concerns where appropriate and as needed. (2 hour per week)
