SUMMARY: The Director of Music and Organist assists in providing leadership to the choir and congregation during worship and serves as a resource to support, foster, and coordinate the worship life of the congregation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Play organ for Sunday service(s) and at Principal Feasts*; weddings and funerals (based on availability.) Compensation for weddings and funerals is not part of proposed salary and is paid by families of deceased/betrothed.
2. The Director shall serve as Choirmaster and shall conduct and lead choirs (September to June):
Adult- comprised of volunteers and section leaders as 2010-2011 budget allows; sings three times per month and rehearses Thursday evenings and Sunday morning
Children's-rehearses Sunday morning and sings once a month on the third Sunday
3. Provide Rector and Parish Secretary/Administrator with music weekly for insertion into Sunday worship bulletin.
4. See to the maintenance of the musical instruments in the church and parish house.
5. See to the purchase and care for all choral music of the church within budgetary considerations.
6. The Director will oversee the recruitment of choir members and shall hire additional musicians when deemed appropriate for special services during the year.
7. In consultation with the Rector, Treasurer, and Finance Committee, will prepare annual music budget requests.
8. Attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
The Director of Music and Organist is directly responsible to the Rector of St. Bernard's Church, and understands that, according to canons of the Church, the Rector has final authority in all matters pertaining to worship.
*the Principal Feasts of the church year are: Easter Day, Ascension Day, The Day of Pentecost, Trinity Sunday, All Saints' Day, Christmas, The Epiphany.
